The Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS) and the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB) have formalized their collaboration by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). This agreement marks an important step towards fostering synergies between the two societies, encouraging cross-disciplinary research, and promoting joint activities that benefit their respective communities.
The MoU establishes a framework for cooperation, which includes:
- Promoting the cross-disciplinary use of biomaterials research in both Societies
- Coordinating conference schedules to avoid overlaps
- Organizing joint events, including dedicated sessions at each other’s conferences and webinars
- Facilitating the exchange of announcements and newsletters between the two organizations
FEMS President, Prof Aldo R. Boccaccini, highlighted the significance of this agreement, stating: ‘Following our current goal in expanding the international network of FEMS, I am delighted that we have signed this Memorandum of Understanding with the European Society for Biomaterials (ESB). ESB and FEMS have a long tradition of promoting the materials science and engineering fields in Europe and beyond. In the specific case of biomaterials, collaborating with ESB will increase FEMS visibility in the healthcare sector, where materials are key to the success of important areas in medicine, such as implants, tissue engineering, and drug delivery. We look forward to a fruitful collaboration with ESB in the future.’
ESB President, Prof Nicholas Dunne, said ‘this collaboration represents a significant opportunity to strengthen the relationships between the ESB and FEM communities. By sharing our expertise, knowledge, and fostering cross-disciplinary research collaborations, we can accelerate innovation in biomaterials research. Ultimately, this will lead to improved healthcare solutions and patient outcomes. We are excited to work with FEMS to create new avenues for scientific discovery in the field of biomaterials.’
